Are You Actually Living Authentically, or Just Playing the Part?

There I was, standing in the shower, mentally prepping for a dry needling session with my physio when bam—the strangest thought hit me: “I need to eat more dark-skinned vegetables.”

Random? Yes. But hear me out.

I’d recently listened to a podcast on neuroplasticity (because, hello, brain health) and how dark-skinned vegetables can help support your brain forming new pathways. Which got me thinking about my local farmers market, and how I should be eating fresher food. Which then spiraled into: “I should be growing my own vegetables!” Followed by the thought that stopped me in my tracks…“I don’t have time.” Just like that, I went from empowered to excuse-making in 0.2 seconds.

However, let me back up and give you the full story.

Lately, as I approach 40 with perimenopause knocking, I’ve made it my mission to put my health first. Like really first. We’re talking regular physio appointments, cutting back on alcohol, prioritising sleep, and even making time to regularly walk the dog while cheering on my daughter’s newfound surfing addiction. I’ve taken steps to address those nagging health issues I used to sweep under the rug. I’ve been showing up and ticking the boxes…

But that shower moment? It called me out.

Here’s the truth: I’ve been living inauthentically.

Yes, I’m doing some things. But they’re the bare minimum. Tick-the-box-type stuff. The kind of actions that look good on the outside but aren’t actually shifting anything underneath.

I say I want to be healthier, but am I really living that?

  • I go to the physio… but I don’t do the exercises regularly.

  • I said I’d join a gym for tailored workouts… but haven’t.

  • I want to eat fresher… but blame time, money, or convenience.

  • I talk about growing vegetables… but never plant the seeds (literally and metaphorically).

This isn’t self-criticism—it’s self-honesty.

Because here’s the thing: You can’t expect to live a changed life if you’re not willing to change your lifestyle.

It’s easy to say, “I don’t have time.” But is that the truth? Or just a story I’ve accepted?

I know I’m capable. I’ve built businesses, raised a family, and weathered life’s storms. Growing a few veggies and sticking to a wellness routine? Totally doable. What’s been missing is not capability—it’s commitment. Authentic, embodied commitment.

So I’m calling it out—not just for me, but for you too, beautiful soul reading this. Are you doing things that look like growth… or are you actually growing? Are you talking about change… or living it? We all fall into the trap of easy surface-level action. However real transformation? It demands depth. It asks us to look past the pretty habits and get honest about what’s holding us back—then do the gritty work of shifting it.

Good News is that’s what I help women do every day in my coaching practice. Whether it’s in business or life, real alignment only happens when we cut the fluff and show up truthfully. For our health. Our dreams. Ourselves.

So here’s your loving nudge:
Check in with where you might be ticking boxes instead of building momentum. Decide what authentic living looks like for you—then take one brave step toward it. No tiptoeing - make sure you STOMP!

Your Action Step:
Choose one thing this week that feels aligned with the life you actually want—not the one you’re just "managing."
Maybe it’s doing those physio exercises every morning.
Maybe it’s a ten-minute daily walk before the chaos of the day kicks in.
Maybe it’s finally planting those veggies or saying no to something that doesn’t serve you.

Whatever it is, do it with intention. Not for the gold star, but because you’re worth following through on, and if you’re tired of doing this on your own, I see you. I need you for the motivation just as much as you need me.

This is exactly what I help women with—getting real, getting clear, and creating change that sticks.
If you’re ready to stop box-ticking and start becoming the version of yourself you’ve been dreaming about, let’s chat.
